  • Salvation Colors – Green

I sit here looking at the snow, dreaming of spring. I am cuddled up in my snuggie and working on some knit and crochet projects to add to Book 2 so I can make it available for purchase soon.

In the meantime, I am looking over the instructions for the last panel of the Salvation Colors Afghan/Lapghan.  Green in this ensemble represents our growing and maturing in Christ.

Unlike our physical bodies, spiritual maturity comes at many ages; depending on when Christ is accepted into your life.  Many people then remain as babies, satisfied with milk and don’t grow. But Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 13:11. When I was a child, I talked like a child. I thought like a child. I reasoned like a child. When I became a man I put childish ways behind me.  We must mature, grow beyond our comfort zones and step out for Christ.  The names of these patterns seemed so appropriate for the green maturity panel; Wheatear and Sweet Pea.

How are you maturing in Christ today?

Next month I will post the edging and seaming to complete the project.  Whether you chose to use the stitch patterns of your own or you chose to use other patterns, it is the colors and the story that matters. Are you prepared to tell your own story of accepting Jesus Christ in your life?

  • Take Along Projects

I am trying to organize my stash into something reasonably usable.  In December I embellished some teddy bears and purchased little accessories to make this adorable clown bear.

The person who ordered it requested another one a few weeks later. I knew I was in trouble when I couldn’t find where I put the extra pieces from ones purchased for this bear. So, I had to head out to WalMart (like I need an excuse to go there) and repurchase the same items.

Thus this buddy joined the troops.

I then had to explain to my husband why I had to purchase something he had just taken me to purchase two weeks prior. Now I was busted!!  So, I am destashing and decluttering. I found more bears, and several yarn purchases.  They are all going into one place (I hope).

My goal is to do with some small projects, what Yarn Harlot did with her sock projects. I am trying to put into my numerous totes, a project to include yarn, hook or needles and pattern. This way when I head out the door to wait at the doctor’s office, or in line at the DMV, I can throw my billfold into the tote and knit or crochet while I wait.

No, I don’t have the destash/declutter finished yet, but it is dwindling and I am hopeful. I have a goal. That’s a start, right?   I’d also like my closet to look as nice as the Yarn Harlots, but that is another story too.  Or it it an extension of this one????

Do you take projects with you to work on in line?  There is a poll on the right side, let us know.

On the plus side, I did learn the loop stitch and can now make hair for my bears and dolls. However, I still haven’t found the original supplies I was seeking for the bear.

  • Yarn purchases

I am trying to clean out my cluttered craft areas and merge them into one organized closet.  (big emphasis on the word trying)

I keep getting distracted because I find a work I started and then set aside to start another project. I pick up that set-aside project, only to find more pattern books with ideas I want to start.

Yes, my KCADD (knit crochet attention deficit disorder) is going wild lately.

Looking through my stash I am amazed at all the places I find yarn to purchase.  Where do you get your yarn from?

How do you stay focused on a project?

  • Made New

“..to be made new..to put on the new self created to be like God in righteousness and holiness” Ephesians 4:23,24.

We are in a new year, welcome to 2010.  When I was a child in the 1960s, the thought of a year in the 2000s was something in Star Trek, far beyond the imagination of where man would go. And here we are.

Are you one who makes New Year resolutions? We are at the end of January, were you able to keep any of them?

I have been going through my craft closets and found a number of projects I hoped to start, several I started and set aside, some I started and didn’t like, some that I needed to get more material for.

I wonder if God looks at me like I do the items in my craft closet. In my life he has started many wonderful works, some of which I have stalled Him on and not completed. He has completed many works in me and there are many more in process. Some projects are not yet complete, waiting on God’s timing. I can rush through, but without God there are dropped stitches in my life. Luke 1:20 in the Message reads Every word I’ve spoken to you will come true on time God’s time.

There are still many rows yet to knit in my life.  A beautiful edging of crochet will be added. But not yet.  God is still gathering materials and stitching my life together. But He doesn’t leave me in the closet, to pull out and work on occasionally.  He is always in my life, working within me.

  • BLUE Panel Correction

I was just informed of a couple of typos in my BLUE Knitted version of the Salvation Colors Afghan.

Row 2 should read  K2 P31 K1 K1tbl  as you will now have 35 stitches on the needles

Row 3 should begin with K4

Sorry for the inconvenience.  Here is the link for the pattern if you need to download it again.

  • Salvation Colors Afghan – BLUE

We are now on the 5th panel of Salvation Colors Afghan. How are you doing? In February I will post the final panel, then in March the edging and seaming.

This month we look at The Waters of Baptism.

1 Peter 3:21 says, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also-not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God

As a symbol of your commitment to the Lord God you are asked to follow Jesus in baptism. Baptism does not save a person any more than putting on a ring make you married. You must follow through in the action of commitment.’

And he said to them, in Mark 16:15,16, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. This is the first command given to a believer.  Even Jesus was baptized in Luke 3:21,22.

As you work through this pattern, read the story in Luke 3. Have you been baptized? If so prayerfully remind yourself of the love commitment that was made by Jesus and by you. If not, prayerfully consider if it is time in your walk with Christ to do so.

The stitch panel in the knit version is called Little Fountain. That seemed appropriate for a panel titled “The Waters of Baptism”.

  • Victory in Jesus

I follow someone on twitter named Hooking Stitches.  She is a very encouraging woman who makes and offers prayer shawls and chemo caps to those in need.

As the new year approached she has come up with an excellent idea to tear down her strongholds and change daily habits away from her sinful nature and toward the Lord. Using different colors to represent strongholds broken she is making a victory blanket and we can follow her progress as she demonstrates Romans 12:2 in action. Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.  We cannot makes these changes alone in our lives, we must let God do the work and be willing to follow Him.

She is opening her heart and her life while  telling her story in this blanket, just like we are telling the salvation story with the Salvation Afghan knit-along/crochet-along.

It is exciting to see the many ways people use their talents to share their love of Christ. Melody is an example of the Proverbs 31 woman and mentor to all around her.

Proverbs 31:13 She shops for the best yarns and enjoys (crochet). MSG

Proverbs 31:20  She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.NIV

Proverbs 31:24 She (crochets) garments and sells them. NIV

Proverbs 31:26 She speaks with wisdom NIV

What are some things you’d like to change or improve in your life this year?

Perhaps the idea of reading the bible in a year is too large a project, so how about starting with simply reading a chapter a day to get started? Proverbs has 31 chapters, January has 31 days. That’s a starting point.

Maybe you’d like to improve your crochet or knitting skills. Why not try the Salvation Afghan. The stitch patterns were selected to stretch my own comfort zones and go beyond the standard stockinette and double crochet rows.

Don’t become so focused on the big picture that you forget the small details. Before you run, you must learn to walk, before you knit yourself a sweater, you have to learn how to knit.

I am encouraged by Melody and look forward to seeing her continue to grow as a woman after God’s own heart.

What will you do to let God transform you this year? What will you put into your victory blanket?

  • Salvation Colors Afghan – PURPLE

Purple in the Salvation Colors represents royalty.

Christ was born to be King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The disciples expected him to set up a kingdom here on earth and were bewildered at the events that led to his death.  But God had a plan that they could not understand.

Jesus did not wear the robes of royalty here on earth, He did not adorn his hands with diamonds and other jewels. But He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords and preparing a place for us in his heavenly kingdom.

The stitch pattern for knit and for crochet is called diamonds. I thought it appropriate for this color.  Diamonds are used to represent commitment in a marriage vow. Jesus has committed His life life for ours.

The patterns chosen here are a bit more difficult than the others. At least for me, they required more concentration than the previous ones. Take your time and watch the diamonds appear in the panel.

  • How To: Weave in ends

Last week I posted about the importance of weaving in ends when completing a knit or crochet project.  I also looked at how we need to weave God’s word securely into our hearts.

Today I received this interesting post by Knitting Daily with tips and ideas on weaving in those ends that I thought I’d pass along to you.  (click here for article)

The tips come from the book Fearless Knitting by Jennifer Seiffert.

  • Christmas crafting

I have been busy crocheting Christmas stockings for my younger nieces and nephews. I am using this pattern from Lion Brand.

Here are a pictures of one I have completed.

    What are you making?
